Fun Spanish Beach Camping Activities for Kids
Whether you’re staying home or heading out to la playa, these Spanish beach camping activities help kids learn naturally through play. Your kids will have fun using their imaginations as they practice vocabulary and build confidence using Spanish!
Mix and match some these Spanish beach camping activities to build your el verano lesson:
Vocabulary Scavenger Hunt
What kids practice: vocabulary and speaking
Make a scavenger hunt using beach and camping vocabulary—like rocas (rocks), arena (sand), or mesa (table)—and go for a walk at a nearby park or beach.
You can also do this at home by hiding vocabulary word cards around the room. Have your kids find each one and match it to a picture or use the word in a sentence, depending on their level.
Cuentos de fogata (Campfire Stories)
What kids practice: speaking and storytelling
Set up a pretend campfire using sticks, paper flames, or anything you have on hand.
Sit together in a circle and use vocabulary flashcards to create silly stories. Flip over a few word cards at once and see how you can connect them into one story. Start with “Érase una vez…” (“Once upon a time…”).
Camp Out (or Camp In)
What kids practice: vocabulary and pretend play
Use items around the house or in your yard for a pretend campout.
Make a check-list with Spanish camping vocabulary to “pack” for your camping trip and set up the campsite: tienda de campaña (tent), saco de dormir (sleeping bag), lámpara (lamp).
If you’re indoors, build a fort with blankets and bring in stuffed animals as “wild animals” to practice animal vocabulary. Turn off the lights and read Spanish picture books by lantern light. If you’re outside, gather sticks for a pretend campfire and enjoy a few marshmallows together.
La playa Sensory Bin
What kids practice: vocabulary and hands-on exploration
Making your own beach-themed sensory bin is a great idea for younger learners.
Fill a tub with sand and small beach items (toys or pictures work great for this). As they dig and explore, have your kids name each item in Spanish as they find them. Once they’ve found the hidden items, let them enjoy some free play with the sensory bin.
Beach Day at Home
What kids practice: verbs and everyday language
Bring the beach to your backyard with towels, beach chairs, and a kiddie pool or sandbox.
Make a simple packing list in Spanish and have your kids help gather the items. As they play, practice verbs like nadar (to swim), cavar (to dig), and hacer (to make).
¿Dónde está…? (Where Is…?)
What kids practice: prepositions and sentence structure
Set up a pretend campsite with toys and stuffed animals for this fun game.
Hide items around the room and ask your child where each one is. For example: “¿Dónde está el oso?” (Where is the bear?) “El oso está debajo de la mesa. (The bear is under the table.)
Mystery Beach Bag
What kids practice: describing and speaking
Fill a beach bag with items you’d take to the beach, like a towel, a shovel, a bucket, and/or a hat.
Show your child matching vocabulary cards first, then have them reach into the bag without looking. They can describe what they feel using Spanish adjectives like suave (soft), duro (hard), or pesado (heavy), and guess the item before pulling it out.
