Academics Overview

Spanish Language Arts
Your child will continue building on Spanish phonics with CVCV syllables, syllable counting for palabras bisílabas y trísilabas, adjectival endings, demonstrative adjectives and pronouns, conjunctions, possessive adjectives, plural and singular verbs, reflexive verbs, compound nouns, and adverbs of frequency.

Math in Context
Your child will learn to tell the time on the hour, odd and even numbers, more complex 2D shapes, word problems up to 20, skip counting in by twos and fives, “longitud” (length), and reading simple bar charts.

Lectoescritura (Reading and Writing Skills)
Your child will read 6 beautifully illustrated short stories, and 18 short readers. They will complete event sequencing, copywork, comprehension questions, poetry, punctuation, and developing basic sentence structure skills in Spanish.

Science and Social Studies
Your child will learn about the life cycle of a frog, the monarch migration to Mexico, hibernation, causes of animal extinction and why some animals are endangered, cultural traditions like a “quinceañera” party, “el jarabe tapatió” dance, and famous Latinos including Pura Belpré and Sharuko.

Music
Your child will consolidate their vocabulary learning through 18 Spanish songs.

Prerequisites

Level 2 is perfect for students who have completed Level 1, or have at least one year of formal elementary Spanish /dual language immersion. This is our lower intermediate level.

What is taught in Level 2?

6 Thematic and Sequential Units:

Unit 1: La rutina diaria –Talk about daily routines and practice reflexive verbs.
Unit 2: Los pasatiempos –Discuss hobbies and explore traditional Hispanic pastimes.
Unit 3: Creciendo juntos –Examine family life, infant care, and cultural celebrations such as la quinceañera.
Unit 4: Los animales extintos y en peligro de extinción –Discover endangered animals and causes of extinction.
Unit 5: Los animales que hibernan – Explore the wonders of hibernation and the animals that rest through winter.
Unit 6: Los vehículos de construcción – Learn about construction vehicles while reviewing key verbs in action!

6 short stories that correlate with the 6 unit themes to teach grammar through our storytelling approach.

Story 1: La vaca que se baña ~Follow a girl’s morning routine on her Latino family’s ranch.

1. Building Biliteracy Skills

Lectoescritura: Reading and Writing in Spanish

Building on the foundations in Level 1, students begin to develop reading and writing skills in Spanish—no drills or verb charts required. Spanish grammar and fluency come alive—naturally, joyfully, and through stories!

Grammar through Stories: Punctuation, verbs, adjectives, conjunctions, and more—through storytelling.
Comprehension Activities: Strengthen understanding with sequencing, copywork, and narration.
18 Bilingual Readers: Practice reading and listening with a series of ‘libritos‘ (3 per unit)
Phonics & Spelling: Review complex sounds, syllable counting (bisílabas, trisílabas), decoding CVCV words, and more!
Poetry & Recitations: Build rhythm, pronunciation, and confidence through verse.
Native Speaker Audio & Video: Hear authentic accents from Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Venezuela.

In Level 2, they will review concepts taught in Level 1 like counting and 2D shapes, and master new concepts including:

Telling the time on the hour only (full clock taught in Level 3)
Learning to identify more complex 2D shapes
Practicing addition and subtraction up to 20 with word problems

Frequently Asked Questions

What Age is intended for Level 2?

For lower intermediates, Level 2 works well for ages 6-10.

For bilingual or native Spanish speakers: ages 6-7.

Level 2 is most correlated with Primer Grado for CCSS en Español. It provides the foundations in phonics and counting. Our curricula is sequential!

How long is the Level 2 Curriculum?

Level 2 is made up of 6 thematic units with 12 lessons per unit.

Each lesson takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

We Speak Spanish Fluently. Is This Too Easy?

Actually our program is very popular amongst native and heritage Spanish speakers because we provide bilingual scripted lessons (read the blue ink for Spanish). This allows you to use the program as complete immersion.

Your child may already know the thematic vocabulary but will develop foundational skills in Spanish phonics, early math, reading and more.

We go beyond learning vocabulary! This is a comprehensive and academically robust curriculum.

I don’t speak Spanish! Can I teach my kids successfully using this curriculum?

Yes! We have designed Llamitas Spanish to support both native and non native speakers.

We provide lots of support for parents that are learning alongside their child:

~ The textbook provides scripted lessons in both English and Spanish. English is in purple. You would read the purple only.

~ We also provide native speaker audio tracks, and pronunciation guides.

Everything is setup to support you so your experience is fun and stress free!

How much printing is there?

If you choose the printed version you do not need a printer. Everything is printed for you.

If you choose digital only (print at home) you will need to print:

Level 2 Textbook: 300 pages (150 sheets)
Level 2 Anthology: 48 pages (24 sheets)

Level 1 Readers: 38 pages (19 sheets)

We recommend printing the textbook unit by unit as you go. Print the readers and anthology all in one go.

Each unit is about 40-50 pages (20-25 sheets). It is manageable! But the printed option is there for you if you want to hit the easy button!

Can I get a hard copy of the textbook?

Yes! You can choose between two payment options: The digital-only course (print at home) OR the digital + physical (printed spiral bound course book + readers + anthology).

Are there separate teacher and student books?

No. Everything is open-and-go.

Instructions are provided on page for parents / teachers to read. The student then completes the activities on page in the same book.

Is this curriculum secular?

Yes. The Llamitas Spanish Levels do not include any religious teachings or biblical content.

Secular does not mean we are anti-religion. It simply means that we don’t include faith based content. If you have any questions regarding this, please feel free to contact us.

Our Holiday and Seasonal Bundle includes content that pertains to the Christian cultural celebrations in Spanish speaking countries. This is not part of our curriculum levels.

Do you take purchase orders?

Can I use this curriculum in a Co-op/ group setting?

Yes, but the purchase of a Teacher License is required.

This is for any group settings, where 2 or more families come together to complete lessons. Please visit our Teacher License product to learn more about our legal guidelines.

We ship to U.S. states and territories. Shipping uses live USPS rates and is based on the weight and distance.

We can ship internationally but the rate is much higher. For an international shipping quote, please complete our contact form.
