It doesn’t take an expert to know that most kids love dinosaurs. And we have to admit, they are fascinating to learn about! Paleontologists are still making new discoveries about dinosaurs every day.

Dinosaur Spanish Lessons

At Llamitas Spanish, we teach Spanish through cross-curricular, thematic units. This means students aren’t just learning Spanish as a standalone subject. Instead, language skills are gained across subjects, including cultural studies, geography, sciences, and more.

With paleontology being such a wonderful topic for children to learn about at the elementary level, we’ve dedicated an entire unit to it in our new Level 2 Curriculum. This is especially a great way to engage boys in learning Spanish!

Keep reading, because we have everything you need to teach your kids about dinosaurs in Spanish right here!

Spanish Lessons about Dinosaurs

Kids can’t get enough of dinosaurs, which makes this such a fantastic topic to include in your Spanish lessons.

Not only is this topic fascinating, but it also lends itself well to a cross-curricular approach to language learning, reinforcing important science concepts and vocabulary, with plenty of opportunities to incorporate math practice, grammar, stories, music and more.

That’s why our new Level 2 Curriculum includes a unit about extinct and endangered animals, including dinosaurs!

Exinct and Endangered Animals

In the unit, kids will use their Spanish language skills to:

  • Learn dinosaur names in Spanish.
  • Use adjectives to describe dinosaurs.
  • Understand the terms herbivoros and carnivoros.
  • Learn about dinosaurs and fossils through reading comprehensions and poetry.
  • Practice math, including addition, subtraction, bar charts, and more with dinosaur-themed activities.
  • Learn our song “Dino Dino Dinosaurios.”
  • Discover the famous Peruvian archaeologist Julio C. Tello.
  • Read a story about an endangered pink river dolphin in the Amazon

Additionally, students will learn to classify vertebrate animals into five groups, singular vs. plural verbs, the contractions “al” and “del,” and a beautiful story about the endangered Amazon Pink River Dolphin!

If you’re looking for done-for-you thematic Spanish lessons covering exciting topics like animals and dinosaurs, look no further.

Names of Dinosaurs in Spanish

Of course, a dinosaur Spanish lesson for kids wouldn’t be complete until they know how to say the names of all of their favorite dinos in Spanish.

But first: How do you say dinosaur in Spanish?

The Spanish word for dinosaur is dinosaurio (pronounced dee-noh-sow-ryoh). Pretty easy, right? You’ll find that a lot of dinosaur names in Spanish are very similar to the English names, so they’re not difficult to learn.

Dino Dino Dinosaurios Song

Music always makes a great addition to any thematic Spanish lesson!

Songs help young learners to memorize new vocabulary, reinforce grammar concepts, and improve pronunciation in such a fun way that they won’t even know they’re learning.

But incorporating music into lessons isn’t just fun—it actually boosts learning. In fact, a music-language link has been well-studied and shown to play a crucial role in language development for young children (Pino, Giancola, & D’Amico, 2023).

Music and songs are a huge part of our curricula here at Llamitas Spanish, and we’re excited to share our very own song, “Dino Dino Dinosaurios,” written by us for our Level 2 Curriculum.

Take a listen and sing along!
